Generation

We are proud to utilize the immense power of hydropower, including the iconic Bonneville Dam, to provide clean, reliable, and affordable electricity to our members throughout Oregon. As a key player in the region’s energy landscape, we are committed to maximizing the potential of the Bonneville Dam and its contribution to sustainable energy generation.

Our Partnership with the Bonneville Power Administration (BPA)

Laurelhurst G&T Cooperative has forged a strong partnership with the Bonneville Power Administration (BPA), the federal agency responsible for operating and maintaining the Bonneville Dam. This collaboration allows us to leverage the substantial hydropower resources provided by the dam to benefit our members and communities.

Benefits

Clean & Reliable Hydropower Generation

The Bonneville Dam, with its multiple powerhouses and turbines, has a significant generation capacity.

  • It harnesses the energy of the Columbia River to produce clean and renewable hydropower, which forms a substantial portion of the electricity supplied to our members
  • The reliable output of the dam plays a vital role in meeting the energy demands of our communities year-round
Grid Stability & Flexibility

The Bonneville Dam’s hydropower operations provide valuable grid stability and flexibility.

  • By regulating the flow of water through the dam, we can adjust power generation to match the changing needs of the electricity grid
  • This flexibility allows us to efficiently manage peak demand periods, support renewable energy integration, and maintain grid reliability
Environmental Stewardship

Laurelhurst G&T Cooperative, in collaboration with the Bonneville Power Administration, places great importance on environmental stewardship in the operation of the dam. We strive to minimize the impact on the Columbia River’s delicate ecosystem through:

  • Fish passage programs
  • Wildlife protection measures
  • Ecosystem restoration initiatives

Our commitment to sustainability ensures the preservation of the region’s natural resources and promotes the well-being of native species.

Community Engagement & Education

We actively engage with local communities to raise awareness about the Bonneville Dam and its role in clean energy generation. We strive to inspire future generations and foster a sense of appreciation for hydropower and its positive impacts on the region through:

  • Educational programs
  • Tours
  • Outreach initiatives
